Gîte Le Cherche Midi
A small cottage for two in a flower garden, Rue de la Marne in Gaillac. Rated 3 stars by Gîtes de France, ten minutes on foot from the town centre and the abbey.
Le Cherche Midi is an independent cottage for two, set in a garden on Rue de la Marne, in a residential part of Gaillac. Push through a gate, cross a lawn bordered by California poppies, and reach a small white building with a pergola, a picnic table and grey shutters. The kind of place you imagine renting for a week and doing nothing — and that works just as well for a weekend.
The interior is simple and complete. A bright living room with a sofa and dining area, a bedroom with a glass door onto the garden, a bathroom with a washing machine, an equipped kitchen. Understated decoration, blue tones and pale wood, no frills. Rated three stars by Gîtes de France, which means everything meets the standard and nothing is missing.
Gaillac’s centre is ten minutes on foot — the Abbey of Saint-Michel, the Friday market, the Tarn riverbanks. You walk there in the morning and come back for lunch under the pergola. The host lends bikes for those who want to go further without starting the car.
What we love.
