Place de l’Acampadou — a name that even Cordes regulars cannot always place on the map. A small square set back from the Grand-Rue, steps from rue du Barri but in a different, almost domestic kind of quiet. Le Tresor de Cordes occupies a stone house here, converted into a rental for two to four people.

The interior does not pretend: stone walls, low vaults, light filtered through medieval openings. It is a compact place — one bedroom, a living room, an equipped kitchen, a neat bathroom — designed for a couple or a small group who want to live inside the bastide rather than visit it. The sofa bed stretches to four, but two is the sweet spot.

At 9.8 from 57 reviews, the rating brushes perfection. No breakfast served, no pool, no dedicated parking — the same limits as any upper-town gite. But the Cordes market on Saturday morning more than makes up for the absence of breakfast: sheep’s cheese, sourdough bread, Tarn vegetables, all a few minutes away on foot.
