Let’s be straight about it: this trip isn’t for anyone already staying in the Gaillac area. It leaves from Toulouse, and that’s exactly the point. For the car-less traveller, or the one with just a single day to give the Tarn from the pink city, it settles the whole logistics question at a stroke — the driving, the parking, the route — and keeps only the three finest stops in the Albi area.
The day follows a simple logic: you start with Albi and its Sainte-Cécile cathedral, a red-brick UNESCO-listed giant; you then climb the cobbled lanes of Cordes-sur-Ciel, a medieval village clinging to its hilltop; and you finish where you should, at a Gaillac estate, glass in hand. Eight hours, a minivan, eight people at most, one guide. Lunch is on you, and the commentary is in English.
Worth knowing before you book: it’s a turnkey formula with a price and a frame — small group, fixed times, an early start from Toulouse. If you’d rather take your time, pick your own wines and go at your own pace, you’re better off renting a car and dropping in on the vineyard estates yourself: most welcome you without a booking, and the tasting is often free.
Why we love it
Three sights in one day
The UNESCO-listed episcopal city of Albi, the perched village of Cordes-sur-Ciel and the Gaillac vineyard: the best of the Albi area in eight hours, with nothing to plan.
No logistics
Air-conditioned minivan, a small group of eight at most, pick-up in Toulouse: you let yourself be driven from one stop to the next — no GPS, no parking to hunt for.
The tasting in Gaillac
The tour ends at a vineyard estate. You sample reds, rosés, sweet whites and the famous Perlé, and meet Braucol, Duras and Mauzac — grapes you won't come across anywhere else.
Built for a single day
It's the ideal option if you're based in Toulouse and want to give just one day to the Tarn: everything is set, you simply climb aboard.
Good to know
- Where does the trip depart from?
- From Toulouse, Allées Jean-Jaurès. It's a tour designed for travellers based in Toulouse: pick-up and drop-off are in the city centre, by minivan.
- What does the day include?
- Eight hours in all: a guided visit of Albi's historic centre (Sainte-Cécile cathedral), free time in the medieval village of Cordes-sur-Ciel, then a tasting at a Gaillac estate. Round-trip transport from Toulouse is included; lunch is not.
- What language is the tour in?
- The commentary is in English, in a small international group. If you're after a tour in French, you're better off going straight to an estate or a local Gaillac guide.
- What if I'm already staying in the Gaillac area?
- Then this trip isn't for you: it leaves from Toulouse, an hour's drive away. If you're already here, visit the estates directly — most welcome you without a middleman, and the tasting is often free.
