La Maison Bakéa
A characterful B&B in a 15th-century house in the heart of the medieval city of Cordes-sur-Ciel: a timber-framed gallery, an inner courtyard and a panoramic terrace over the valley.
La Maison Bakéa occupies a 15th-century house in the heart of Cordes-sur-Ciel, in the upper city. This is not a place dressed up to look medieval: it is a genuine town house of the cité, with its timber-framed wooden gallery, its stained-glass lanterns that colour the light, and a paved inner courtyard where footsteps echo. You stay among the original stone and wood, steps from the lanes and the viewpoints.
Five rooms and suites, plus a small studio, all different. Bare stone walls, ceiling beams, antique finds, carefully chosen linen — one has the air of a master bedroom with its framed canvas, another keeps things plain under the roof timbers. The house also has a wellness side, and keeps a bar for the evening glass. On the south side, a sun-facing terrace opens onto the valley: that is where the buffet breakfast is served when the weather allows.
The house welcomes pets, which is far from common in a place of this character — like the handful of other places around Gaillac that take four-legged companions. Parking is free nearby; you walk up from there, and that is exactly right — the city of Cordes is not meant to be seen any other way.
What we love.
