Domaine des Vergnades
At Cadalen, a family estate since 1860, taken over by Séverin Blanc, sixth generation. An accessible range, a cellar at the foot of a dovecote and a lake: the bet here is on conviviality, not posture.
Domaine des Vergnades has been a family affair since 1860, on the left bank of the Tarn at Cadalen. Five generations of Blancs came before Séverin, the sixth, took up the torch in 2017 — in his thirties, great-grandson, grandson and son of winemakers. It’s the handover of a two-hundred-year-old estate to a young grower.
Forty hectares, a range that covers the whole Gaillac palette — red, rosé, dry white, sweet white, sparkling — and a clear stance: conviviality over prestige. A cellar at the foot of a 19th-century dovecote, a lake, a picnic area, a motorhome stopover; in summer, the estate turns into a place of celebration with its terrace apéro-concerts.
To be honest about it: this isn’t the world of great cellar-worthy wines or a certified approach — no organic or HVE label is shown, and the range plays the entry-to-mid bracket, at gentle prices. Take it for what it is: a welcoming family estate, easy on the wallet, where you happily stop by the water.

Good to know
- Who runs the estate?
- Séverin Blanc, sixth generation, settled in since 2017 — great-grandson, grandson and son of winemakers. The family works the estate together, with vines here since 1860.
- Is the estate organic?
- No organic, biodynamic or HVE certification is shown to date. So we stay cautious: it's a conventional estate, unless the winemaker says otherwise. Better to know it.
- What's there besides the wine?
- A cellar set against a 19th-century dovecote, a lake, a picnic area, picnic baskets and a motorhome stopover (France Passion). It's an estate made for lingering.
- Are there apéro-concerts in summer?
- Yes, three terrace evenings by the lake — Dacodac on 4 July, The Ducks on 7 August and Rac et Nat on 8 August 2026, from 7pm, free entry (meals by booking). The line-up is below.
