The Gaillac summer guinguette
In 2026, the Gaillac guinguette changes its setting: it leaves the banks of the Tarn for place du Griffoul, right in the heart of town. Wednesday to Sunday, a concert every evening, open-air food, free entry — a glass of Gaillac in hand.
For years, the Gaillac guinguette set up by the Tarn, at le Lido. In 2026, it moves: the town hall is transplanting it to place du Griffoul, right in the heart of old Gaillac, to bring life back to the centre. A change of setting — the cool of the riverbank gives way to stone and timber framing — but the format stays the same: Wednesday to Sunday, a concert every evening, open-air food and free entry, a glass of Gaillac in hand.
A new setting, place du Griffoul
No more riverbank: the guinguette takes over place du Griffoul, the most medieval square in Gaillac, around its bronze fountain. The square is harder and sunnier than le Lido; the town has fitted it with misting fans to get through the hot evenings. You swap the water’s edge for a backdrop of half-timbered houses, among the terraces, and the atmosphere stays family-friendly.
The guinguette runs Wednesday to Sunday, from 5 to 10.30 pm — no later, out of respect for residents — and entry stays free, up to five hundred people. It’s a new arrangement for 2026, on trial: the town will take stock in September, and hasn’t ruled out returning to le Lido if it doesn’t catch on. Before or after, old Gaillac is a fine walk on foot — you’re right in the middle of it.
A concert every evening
The line-up is still the soul of the place: a different concert almost every night, in every style. Musette and Gaillac accordion, jazz, soul and RnB, rock, gipsy, salsa, French chanson, pop — there’s something for every ear. The dancing starts early in the evening and holds until closing. The 2026 programme isn’t out yet; you’ll find it below as soon as it’s published.
Eat, drink, wander
When it comes to food, the guinguette gathers several stalls and caterers: a brasero, fish and seafood on the plancha, tapas to share, burgers and home-cooked dishes, and to finish, crêpes, waffles and ice cream. At the bar, Gaillac is poured by the glass — a chance to taste the vineyard’s wines where they were born — alongside local beers. A few makers round out the market. You eat on the go, no fuss: this is not a restaurant, it’s a guinguette. Bring cash, not every stall takes cards.
A summer that shifts the town
The guinguette’s move doesn’t come alone. In 2026, the whole Gaillac summer is being reshuffled: the four markets from the Griffoul — Friday and Sunday mornings, the Noctambio and the Tuesday producers’ market — are moving up to place de la Libération too. To keep the quarter alive during the day, the town is promising street entertainment on rue Portal, clowns and musicians, and a green decor on the square. The idea, openly stated by the council, is to wake up the town centre rather than the riverbank. The verdict comes in September.
